PAINT EN PLEIN AIR WITH
GARY OZIAS
OILS AND PASTELS

September 19, 20, 21, 2008
At the Historic Downs Depot
 in Downs Kansas

Gary Ozias brings to this workshop many years of experience in outdoor painting.  His plein air work has earned numerous natioanl awards and is included in collections from coast to coast and in a number of other countries.,  He loves to paint the prairie landscapes, river valleys, and farmsteads of the northern Kansas area, but he does outdoor work everywhere he travels.  He is an experienced and patient teacher who is familiar with a variety of media.  "There is nothing better thatn to be out painting on fresh, breezy days.  Every painting is a new and exciting challenge.  Plein air painting is essential if one wants to bring authenticity to his or her work."

Demonstrations will be in pastels and oils, but all media are welcome.  This will be an outdoor painting workshop unless weather forces the class inside.  Downs is a historic, old railroad town in north-central Kansas and is surrounded by rolling prairie hills, farms, and scenic creek bottoms, providing ample opportunity for subject matter.

Home base for the workshop will be the Historic Downs Railroad Depot with good space and lighting for painting in the event of inclement weather.  Enrollment will be limited to the first fifteen participants to respond.  Cost is only $140 due to funding by the Downs Arts Council and the Kansas Arts Commission.  The Downs Arts Council is offering an "early bird special rate of $125 for anyone who registers before August 1.  Downs has ample housing with motels, and bed and breakfast space.  Workshop meals , including three light, healthy breakfasts, three lunches, and two evening dinners on Friday and Saturday, can be provided in a reasonable package for an additional $50.  One of these is a workshop cookout together on Saturday evening.  Daily workshop sessions will last from 9 am till 12 pm and 1pm till 4 pm.  Students will need to provide their own transportation.  A supply list, housing list, and full schedule will be sent to participants upon registration.  Further questions may be answered by calling 785-454-3421 or 785-454-6226,  Late enrollees' checks will be returned and names placed on a waiting list in case of cancellations.

This program is presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
